Helvetica: A Documentary Film

I can honestly say, and with a straight face, that I love Helvetica. Although I'm quite partial to Helvetica Neue Bold.
One of the things that really suck about living in South Africa (and there aren't many), is that we don't get very many, if any, cool design conferences. Other than the Design Indaba.
I recently saw at Ace Jet 170 (a brilliant blog), that the Helvetica Film (Produced and directed by Gary Hustwit) was screened in Belfast.

Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.
I wish I could have seen it, but I'll just have to get the DVD. Out in October I think.

super blog! I love it!

I've seen the movie... My DVD arrives in November (and I live in Boston, so maybe give yourself a little more time... or we could work out for me to post you a copy). Its a fantastic, fantastic, fantastic movie, I know you'll love it. I was lucky enough to go to a screening with Gary and also Matthew Carter. Very cool.
